Uses: PRETENSED or POSTENSED VEHICULAR BRIDGES, pedestrian bridges, ramps, floor systems, rigidity beams and supporting beams for buildings. A BOX GIRDER with fins is a PRECAST CONCRETE ELEMENT that its longitudinal section is hollow, and it is only solid at its ends. This reduces in a great amount its weight considering its length, and its geometric properties it has a great stability and resist well in big distances without support, additionally it is a very versatile element.One advantage of this element is the bone placement between one beam and another, using the wide width that its upper fins can reach (greater than 3 meters), avoiding the use of tablets or formwork. When a BOX BEAM is used for vehicular bridges the slab thickness is reduced from 18cm to 15cm which help to save concrete. In the case of pedestrian bridges, the surface of the beam works as slab and it does not require any other casting.
